Le
Rock alternatif est une dénomination née
au début des années 1980 en opposition
aux grands groupes signé sur des majors et
donc souvent plus "commerciale". Ce terme
très utilisé aux États-Unis l'est
nettement moins en France, où on lui préfère
aujourd'hui le terme rock indépendant, à
titre d'exemple il n'existe pas de rayon "alternatif"
dans les grands magasins de disques français.
